When it comes to small bathrooms, getting the right storage may seem like an impossible feat. With one survey suggesting that the average person uses between nine and 15 personal care products every day, the number of tubes, tubs and bottles – not to mention towels, cleaning items and bulky stocks of loo roll – kept in this room can quickly add up, especially if you share with a partner or have a family.
This mountain of stuff can often leave smaller bathrooms feeling cluttered and stressful – not ideal if you're trying to unwind in the bath after a stressful week.
To help you stash all your necessary products in the right place neatly, we've pulled together a selection of small bathroom storage ideas, so you can create a beautifully organised zone in even the tightest spaces.
Utilise height
The dead space above the toilet is often neglected – especially so in poky downstairs bathrooms – but adding a few shelves here makes a good place for spare towels, toilet rolls and cleaning products if you don't have space for a cabinet.
If you're not keen on drilling holes in the wall, like if you're renting, for example, there are plenty of standalone units available that omit lower shelves to allow space for the loo and you can also find a variety of storage options that use self-adhesive stickers or suction cups to hold to the wall, so you don't have to drill.

Slim things down
When dealing with a lack of floor space, opt for tall and narrow furniture pieces that utilise wall height instead. There are plenty of storage units that are no more than 30cm wide that are perfect for slotting into those awkward gaps between the door frame and the shower, or the toilet and the bath, that smaller bathrooms tend to have.
If using open shelving, storing items inside little baskets or colourful glass jars helps to tidy away clutter and invoke a feeling of calm. Keeping the top shelf free for a small plant in a vibrant pot, a candle or a diffuser will also make the space feel more homely.

Make your bath and shower work harder
To keep all your bottles, scrubs and soaps neatly together in the shower, opt for an organiser that slots over the shower curtain rail, screen door or shower head. There are also plenty of bathroom shelving units with suction cups that fix securely to tiles.
If you have a separate bath, avoid having to dot your bottles around the rim of your tub with a bath bridge. This keeps your loofah and washing essentials to hand while also giving you space to keep a cup of tea and a candle to help you relax.

Rework your sink area
Chunky pedestal sinks can take up a lot of room in small bathrooms and prevent the installation of built-in storage units below. Fortunately, there are cupboards designed to fit around pedestals, so you can keep everything tucked away out of sight.
If you have a tiled backsplash, you could also install a no-drill shelf or basket here for toothbrushes and knick knacks, which would take items off the edge of the basin for a cleaner look.
